Answer
In order to distinguish between barium nitrate and lead nitrate, one can use sodium chloride. When sodium chloride is added to the solutions, it will form a precipitate of lead chloride (PbCl2) with lead nitrate, while barium nitrate does not react to form a precipitate with sodium chloride. This unique reaction allows for the differentiation between the two solutions.
