What is a complex number?

A number of the form z = x + iy, with real x and imaginary y.

How is the modulus of a complex number calculated?

Modulus r = √(x² + y²) from the complex number z = x + iy.

What does the argument of a complex number represent?

The angle θ with the positive real axis, θ = tan⁻¹(y/x).

How do you add two complex numbers?

Add real parts and imaginary parts separately: (a+bi) + (c+di).

What is the formula for multiplying complex numbers?

(a+bi)(c+di) = (ac - bd) + (ad + bc)i.

What is the conjugate of a complex number?

The conjugate of z = x + iy is denoted as x - iy.

How do you divide complex numbers?

Use conjugates: (a+bi)/(c+di) = (a+bi)(c-di)/(c²+d²).

What is the polar form of a complex number?

z = r(cosθ + isinθ), where r is modulus and θ is argument.

How do you convert to polar form?

Calculate r = √(x² + y²) and θ = tan⁻¹(y/x).

What is an application of complex numbers?

Used in engineering to evaluate electrical impedance Z = R + iX.
