Respiration: Organisms, including animals and plants, release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere as they breathe.
Decomposition: Decomposers break down dead organic matter, which releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Combustion: When organic material, such as fossil fuels, is burned, carbon dioxide is produced and released into the atmosphere.
