One significant similarity in the impact of warfare on civilians during the periods c1250-c1500 and c1900-present is the phenomenon of forced displacement.

During c1250-c1500, warfare often led to the destruction of villages and towns, resulting in civilians being forced to flee from their homes to escape violence and instability. This displacement impacted their livelihoods, as many were unable to return to their farms or trades.

Similarly, in the c1900-present period, modern warfare has seen large-scale displacement due to conflicts, such as World Wars and contemporary conflicts in regions like the Middle East. Civilians have often been uprooted, forcing them to seek refuge in safer areas or countries.

In both periods, the effects of warfare on civilian populations included not just physical displacement, but also psychological trauma, loss of community, and significant humanitarian crises as displaced individuals and families struggled to find safety and support.
