During the electrolysis of concentrated sodium chloride (NaCl) solution, the positive electrode (anode) attracts the negative ions, which are chloride ions (Cl⁻). At the anode, these ions are oxidized to form chlorine gas (Cl₂). Therefore, the substance produced at the positive electrode is chlorine.
