Police Scotland is the national police force of Scotland, with its headquarters located in Tulliallan Castle, Fife. It is the second-largest police force in the United Kingdom, in terms of officer numbers, as the largest territorial police force in terms of its geographic area of responsibility.

In 2011 the Scottish Government decided to create a single police service in Scotland by merging the existing regional police forces. Establishing a single service aims to ensure more equal access to enhanced specialist policing services and expertise.

The Scottish Government's focus is to ensure there is sufficient policing by communities by creating designated local senior officers for every council area, who work with local councils to improve the overall effectiveness of services.

The Scottish Economy

Socially relevant and unprecedented unusual circumstances due to Brexit and the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have placed immense pressures on public policing in Scotland. As a result, Police Scotland faced an additional operational challenge; this is the national police force coordinating the policing initiatives and other essential services at regional and local levels.
