What Are Polymers?

infoNote

Polymers are large molecules made up of repeating units called monomers, which are joined together by covalent bonds.

Properties of Polymers:

  • Made of Repeating Units: Polymers consist of long chains of repeating units (monomers) linked by strong covalent bonds.
  • High Melting and Boiling Points: The strong covalent bonds within the polymer chains require a lot of energy to break, so polymers have high melting and boiling points.
  • Solid at Room Temperature: Because of their high melting and boiling points, most polymers are solid at room temperature.
