My Mother Said I Never Should follows four generations of women—Doris, Margaret, Jackie, and Rosie—who struggle with the societal expectations, and family secrets. The play moves back and forth in time, revealing how the choices of one generation affect the next. Central to the story is Jackie, who, as a young woman, has a daughter, Rosie, out of wedlock.
