In what ways were the lives of the German people affected by the Nazi police state? Explain your answer. [8 marks]

infoNote

One way the lives of German people were affected by the Nazi police state was the constant atmosphere of fear they endured. Through corruption in the courts and tight control over the police force, the Nazis created a system where people were continuously monitored and controlled. This pervasive surveillance led to widespread fear, making individuals highly conscious of their actions and allegiances. The Nazi grip on protection and enforcement meant that people lived in constant anxiety, even to the extent of turning in friends and neighbours out of fear. This environment of distrust deeply affected their daily lives.

Another way the Nazi police state impacted German people was by stripping them of personal freedom. Citizens were only permitted to engage in activities that aligned with Nazi ideologies, such as watching Nazi-approved movies, reading sanctioned books, travelling to designated places, listening to approved media, and following a heavily censored education system. This level of control extended to nearly every aspect of their lives, leaving them completely subject to Nazi influence and propaganda.
