Gender Roles

• What are gender roles?
  • Ways males and females are expected to behave in society.
• Gender stereotyping:
  • Having a fixed and often incorrect idea about a person based on their gender.
  • Example: Assuming females are emotional or males are more career-focused.
• How are gender roles learned?
  • From what we observe at home, in our communities, and in the media.
• Key Point:
  • A person's gender is how they identify themselves (e.g., male, female, non-binary).

Relationships

• A relationship is an interaction between two or more people.
• Our first relationships are usually formed within the family.

Types of Family Relationships

1. Parent-to-parent relationships

• Should be loving, loyal, and respectful.
• Parents share responsibilities within the family.

2. Parent-child relationships

• Should be affectionate, supportive, and respectful.
• Parents ensure their child's needs are met and teach them rules and boundaries.

3. Sibling relationships

• Should be supportive and caring.
• Siblings are expected to treat each other fairly.
