Mothúcháin
- I mo thuairim, is é grá an mothúchán is láidre sa dán greannmhar seo.
- In my opinion, love is the strongest emotion in this funny poem.
- Cé go bhfuil sí ag magaidh faoin a leannán don chuid is mó den dán, tugtar le fios dúinn sa véarsa deireanach go bhfuil sí breá sásta lena gcaidreamh.
- Even though she is mocking about her love for most of the poem, we are told in the last verse that she is perfectly happy with their relationship.
- Ag tús an dáin, cuireann sí i gcéill go bhfuil sí míshásta lena grá, mar níl sé dathúil.
- At the start of the poem, she pretends that she is not happy with her love, because he is not handsome.
- Ach i ndáiríre, is cuma léi nach bhfuil a leannán tarraingteach.
- But in all seriousness, she does not care that her love is not attractive.
- Is duine tuisceannach é agus tugann sé aire di. Tuigeann an file gurbh iad sin na rúdaí is tabhachtaí i gcaidrimh ar bith.
- He is an understanding person and he takes care of her. The poet understands that those are the most important things in any relationship.
- Níl an dán seo rómansúil go traidisiúnta ach níl an file ag cur i gcéill ach an oiread.
- This poem is not traditionally romantic but the poet is not pretending either.
- Tá sí ionraic agus macanta.
- She is sincere and honest.
- Is léir go bhfuil sí féin agus a leannán compóirdeach lena chéile agus brodúíl as a gcaidrimh.
- It is clear that herself and her love are comfortable with one another and proud of their relationship.
