Éifeacht na Lúibíní (The Effect of the Brackets)

• Tá éifeacht thábhachtach ag lúibíní sa dán, go háirithe sa teideal- 'Mo ghrá-sa (idir lúibíní)'.
  • The brackets have an important effect in the poem, particularly in the title 'Mo ghrá-sa (idir lúibíní)'.

  • According to me, the brackets show that this poem will be different from other love poems.

  • When we read the first part of the title, 'Mo Ghrá-sa', it seems like a traditional love poem.

  • And so, in my opinion, the brackets show us that this poem is not a traditional love poem.

  • The brackets add to the humour and lightness of the poem.

  • For example, the poet creates a funny, but dark, picture with the brackets.

  • The poet imagines her love, dead and put in the coffin. Certainly, this is a gloomy picture, but as the brackets are there, a more amusing atmosphere is created.

  • From beginning to end, the poet uses the brackets to show us that even though she has love for her man, she understands that her love is not perfect.
