MACBETH:
   Here’s our chief guest.

LADY M:
   It had been as a gap in our great feast,
   And all-thing unbecoming.

MACBETH:
   Tonight we hold a solemn supper, sir,
   And I’ll request your presence.

BANQUO:
   Let your highness
   Command upon me, to the which my duties
   Are with a most indissoluble tie
   For ever knit.

MACBETH:
   Ride you this afternoon?

BANQUO:
   Ay, my good lord.

MACBETH:
   We should have else desired your good advice,
   Which would hath been both grave and prosperous,
   In this day’s council; but we’ll take tomorrow.

BANQUO:
   As for my lord, as will fill up the time
   ’Twixt this and supper. Go not my horse the better,
   I must become a borrower of the night.
   For a dark hour or two.

MACBETH:
   My lord, I will not.

BANQUO:
   Fail not our feast.

MACBETH:
   Both of your friends will be our guests tonight.
   Now I am bent to chide
   The lady, to leave all that is unfit for her.
   To come to my report. Therein the patient
   Must minister to himself.

Exit Servant.

MACBETH:
   Take thy face hence.
   Seyton! — I am sick at heart,
   When I behold, — Seyton, I say — this push
   Will cheer me ever, or disseat me now.

When I have lived long enough, my voice
   Is fall’n into the sere, the yellow leaf;
   And that which should accompany old age,
   As honour, love, obedience, troops of friends,
   I must not look to have; but in their stead,
   Curses, not loud but deep, mouth-honour, breath,
   Which the poor heart would fain deny, and dare not.

Seyton!

Enter Seyton.

SEYTON:
   What’s your gracious pleasure?

MACBETH:
   All is confirmed, my lord, which was reported.

MACBETH:
   I’ll fight, till from my bones my flesh be hacked.

SEYTON:
   ’Tis not needed yet.

MACBETH:
   I’ll put it on.

SEYTON:
   Send out moe horses, skirr the country round;
   Hang those that talk of fear. Give mine armor.

Exit Seyton.

DOCTOR:
   As she is troubled with thick-coming fancies.

MACBETH:
   Cure her of that.

Cannot thou minister to a mind diseased,
   Pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow,
   Raise out the death of thy business,
   And with some sweet oblivious antidote,
   Cleanse the stuffed bosom of that perilous stuff
   Which weighs upon the heart?

DOCTOR:
   Therein the patient
   Must minister to himself.
