Answer
Diabetes is caused by the body's inability to produce enough insulin or effectively utilize the insulin it produces. A common symptom of diabetes is increased thirst (polydipsia). As blood glucose levels rise due to insufficient insulin, the kidneys work to filter and absorb the excess sugar. However, when they can no longer keep up, the excess sugar is excreted into the urine, pulling fluids from the tissues, which leads to dehydration. This dehydration causes the person to feel increasingly thirsty.
