ADH has several effects on the collecting ducts of the kidneys:
It stimulates the addition of aquaporin proteins into the cell membranes of the collecting duct cells, increasing the permeability to water.
As a result, more water is reabsorbed back into the bloodstream, helping to concentrate the urine and reduce urine volume.
This process occurs mainly by osmosis, whereby water moves from the collecting ducts into the surrounding medullary interstitium.
