To find the actual diameter of the cell, we first need to calculate the total magnification. The total magnification is the product of the magnifications of both lenses:

To obtain a sample of cells, I used a sterile swab to rub the inside of my cheek. This method ensures that the cells collected are representative of the tissue, and it minimizes contamination.

I used methylene blue as the stain on the sample. This stain is effective for highlighting cellular structures.

I placed the coverslip at an angle over the stained sample. Then, I gently lowered it to avoid trapping air bubbles, ensuring that the coverslip lays flat over the cells.

A coverslip is used to protect the sample from drying out and to prevent contamination from dust and other particles. Additionally, it helps to create a uniform thickness for better focusing.

I began by focusing the microscope using the coarse focus knob with the lower power lens to locate the sample. Once the sample was visible, I switched to a higher power lens and used the fine focus to obtain a clear image.

The labelled diagram should depict the cells as observed under high magnification. Essential labels might include the cell membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm, ensuring clarity in the cellular structures.
