Conciliation is a voluntary process where the WRC facilitates discussions between disputing parties, aiming to resolve industrial relations differences. The industrial relations officer (IRO) makes recommendations for a settlement and helps the parties negotiate. The outcome can vary based on consensus reached during these discussions.

Mediation at the WRC seeks to resolve differences through agreement rather than formal investigation. The referee assists the parties in reaching their own resolution, documenting the agreement if successful. If mediation does not lead to resolution, the matter may be escalated for adjudication.

The WRC has Adjudication Officers who operate independently to handle complaints. They hold hearings for both parties to present their case and make informed decisions on whether the complaint has merit, often including directives for the employer to comply with relevant provisions or provide compensation.

Inspections by WRC officials help ensure compliance with employment-related legislation. This includes examining records, conducting employee interviews, and issuing compliance notices to employers for any breaches of legislation found during investigations.

If an employer does not comply with the WRC’s decision, parties have the right to take legal action. The employee or a representative can apply to the District Court to enforce the decision made by an Adjudication Officer or Labour Court.
