Magnetic separation is a process used to separate ore that has magnetic properties from other materials. In this method, the ore is first ground into smaller particles to maximize the surface area for separation.

The ground ore is then passed over a rotating magnetic drum. This drum contains a magnet that attracts the magnetic ore particles. As the drum rotates, the magnetic materials are held onto its surface, while non-magnetic waste falls away and is removed from the system.

After the magnetic separation, the ore that was held on the drum can be collected by releasing or scraping it off. This method is particularly effective for separating iron ore and other magnetic minerals from the surrounding material.
