Answer
Way 1: Land Dispossession
Colonial rule in Kenya resulted in extensive land dispossession for indigenous people. The British colonial authorities appropriated large portions of fertile land and allocated them to European settlers. This disrupted traditional agricultural practices, leading to a loss of livelihoods and food security for the local population. The impacts are still felt today, as land inequality remains a major issue.
Way 2: Economic Dependency
Colonialism established Kenya as an exporter of raw materials while inhibiting the development of local industries. The focus on Agriculture, especially cash crops like tea and coffee, created economic dependency on a few commodities. This limited diverse economic growth and constrained the development of local industries, leaving Kenya vulnerable to global market fluctuations.
