1. Attempt either (a) DIALOGUE CONSTRUCTION or (b) LETTER WRITING. (30 marks)
(a) You are in Spain staying with your friend Juan. The two of you are making plans.

Complete in SPANISH your side of the following DIALOGUE.

Juan: ¿Qué te gustaría hacer?
Tú: Say that you love sports and are a member of a gym in your town. Ask Juan if there is a sports centre nearby.

Juan: Bueno, hay uno en el hotel grande que se encuentra en la Plaza Mayor.
Tú: Tell him that you will go tomorrow to find out how much it costs. You hope that it is not too expensive. Explain that you couldn’t find a summer job because there is fifteen per cent unemployment in Ireland.

Juan: Aún peor aquí. Por eso no tengo mucho dinero y no podré salir mucho.
Tú: Tell Juan that you are tired after your journey and would like to go to bed straight away. The flight from Cork was delayed due to fog.

Tú: Suggest that perhaps you could all play basketball on the court at the end of the street. You would like to get to know them. Another day we could download a film to watch in the evening.

Juan: Mañana, entonces. La mayoría de mis amigos no habla muy bien el inglés. Tendrás que hablar en castellano.
Tú: Say that’s great. It will help you improve your spoken Spanish. Tell him your teacher loves grammar but that you never get a chance to speak the language with Spaniards.
