Achoimre an Dráma (Summary of the Drama)

infoNote

Teideal an dráma: Gleann Álainn Ainm an scríbhneora: Brian Ó Baoill

infoNote

Struggling to remember the plot? So, you think a story about rubbish can't be exciting? Well, think again! Gleann Álainn is here to prove that even garbage can lead to courtroom drama, protests, and a whole lot of teenage courage.

Act 1: "Who Left This Mess?!"

Picture this: a group of teenagers—Sinéad, Seosamh, Pádraig, Eilís, Éamonn Beag, and Pádraigín—are chilling out in a beautiful bog, with amazing views of mountains and lakes. Sounds peaceful, right? They're busy painting the lovely scenery when BAM—Sinéad and Seosamh make a horrible discovery. Some "genius" decided to throw their junk all over the place. We're talking plastic bags, bottles, and even old mattresses. Seriously, who does that?

Sinéad's mad, and when Sinéad gets mad, things happen. The gang decides to go full ninja and hide behind some bushes to catch the dumpers in the act. And boy, do they catch them! Two guys—Séamus Dubh and Peadairín—rock up with a van full of rubbish and start chucking it everywhere like it's no big deal.

But there's a problem—Sinéad knows these guys. They're her dad's political buddies. Uh-oh. Do you turn in the trashy criminals or keep quiet to avoid family drama? Sinéad's in a tough spot, but Seosamh's got a plan: he snaps a secret photo of the whole thing. Evidence, baby!

Act 2: "That's My Dad... Covered in Paint"

Now things get even juicier. The teens decide to protest against the dumping (because they're environmental heroes, obviously). Outside the county council offices, they're causing a scene, and guess who's not happy about it? Sinéad's dad, Seán Mac an Mháistir! He storms into the office, covered in yellow paint from the protest—total fashion disaster. He's furious, not just because of the paint, but because his daughter and her friends are making life difficult for his shady pals, Séamus and Peadairín.

Seán tries to pull some strings with the council officer, Tadhg Ó Cúill, to get the court case against his friends pushed back. He even drops a brown envelope on Tadhg's desk. Yup, good old-fashioned bribery. But Tadhg knows it's the teens who are taking the case to court, not the council, so Seán's plan isn't going as smoothly as he hoped.

Act 3: "Dun Dun Duuuun... Courtroom Drama!"

Time for the big showdown in court! Mac Uí Ghríofa, the teens' lawyer, is ready to expose Séamus and Peadairín for their dumping crimes. But wait! Éamonn Beag, the nephew of one of the dumpers, gets called to the stand and suddenly forgets everything. Classic. He claims he couldn't really see who was dumping because, you know, bushes. Seriously, Éamonn?

The case looks like it's falling apart, but just when all hope seems lost, who bursts into the courtroom? Seosamh! He's sweating and out of breath, but he's got the golden ticket—photos of the two culprits in action. Talk about a dramatic entrance!

With the photographic evidence in hand, Séamus and Peadairín can't deny it anymore. Their lawyer throws in the towel, and the judge fines them €800. The teens cheer like they've just won the World Cup, waving their flags and celebrating their victory. They've saved the day, the environment, and taught the dumpers a lesson they won't forget!

The Moral of the Story?

Don't mess with teenagers, especially when they have cameras and a serious dislike for littering. Also, if you're going to dump rubbish, maybe don't do it in a beautiful bog where artistic teens are hanging out. Just saying.

In the end, Gleann Álainn shows us that even young people can take on big issues (like rubbish) and win. It's a story of standing up for what's right, even when it means going against the people you know.

Radharc a haon

Suíomh (Setting)****:

Tá an chéad chuid den dráma suite i bportach.

The first part of the dráma is set in a bog.

Chuaigh grúpa déagóirí chuig an bportach chun péinteireacht a dhéanamh. Bhí radharc álainn den sliabh agus den loch acu.

A group of teenagers went to the bog to paint. They had a lovely view of the mountain and the lake.

Chuaigh Sinéad agus Seosamh suas ar an ard chun radharc níos fearr a fháil. Chuaigh siad as radharc. Lean na déagóirí eile orthu. Bhí siad ag péintéireacht agus ag sceitseáil.

Sinéad and Seosamh went up higher on the hillock to get a better view. They went out of view. The other teenagers followed them. They were painting and sketching.

Tar éis tamaill, d'fhill Sinéad ar an ngrúpa. Dúirt sí gur chaith 'amadán éigin' bruscar ar an sliabh. Leann na déagóirí Sinéad chuig an loch. Chonaic siad buidéil, málaí móra plaisteacha, cannaí stáin agus seanleapacha in aice leis an loch.

After a while, Sinéad returned to the group. She said that 'some fool' threw rubbish on the mountain. The teenagers followed Sinéad to the lake. They saw bottles, big plastic bags, tin cans and old beds next to the lake.

Bhí na déagóirí míshásta agus shocraigh siad rud éigin a dhéanamh faoin bruscar. Chuaigh siad i bhfolach taobh thiar de sceacha chun fáil amach cé a bhí ag dumpáil an bhruscair san áit. Theastaigh ó Shinéad agóid i gcoinne na dumpála a eagrú. Dúirt Seosamh go mbeadh sé sásta pairt a ghlacadh san agóid.

The teenagers were unhappy and they decided to do something about the rubbish. They hid behind bushes to find out who was dumping the rubbish in the place. Sinéad wanted to organise a protest against the dumping. Seosamh said that he would be happy to take part in the protest.

Ansin, chonaic na déagóirí beirt fhear. Bhí siad ag dumpáil málaí plaisteacha, carn d'adhmad agus dramhaíl eile óna veain. Ghlac Seosamh grianghraf de na fir.

Then, the teenagers saw two men. They were dumping plastic bags, piles of wood and other rubbish from their van. Seosamh took a photo of the men.

Bhí aithne ag Sinéad ar na fir- Séamus Dubh agus Peadairín ó Thóin an Bhaile. Bhí Sinéad i bponc. Thacaigh na fir le hathair Sinéad, agus bheadh a hathair ar buile má sceithfeadh sí orthu.

Sinéad knew the men-Séamus Dubh agus Peadairín ó Thóin an Bhaile. Sinéad was in a difficult situation. The men supported Sinéad's father, and her father would be furious if she told on them.

Thosaigh Séamus Dubh agus Peadairín ag caint. Bhí imní ar Pheadarín go mbéarfar orthu. Chonaic sé fógra:

Cosc ar dumpaíl anseo

Fíneáil €800

Séamus Dubh and Peadairín started talking. Peadairín was worried that they would be caught. He saw a sign:

No dumping here

Fine €800

Ní raibh Séamus buartha in aon chor. Dúirt se nach mbeadh a fhios ag éinne gurbh iad a bhí ag dumpáil bruscair ann. Dar leis, fiú dá bhfaigheadh éinne amach go raibh siad ag dumpáil bruscair, bhí cairde tábhachtacha aige- mar atá, Mac an Mháistir, an Teachta Dála. Bhí uafás ar Shinéad- ba é Mac an Mháistir a hathair!

Séamus was not worried at all. He said that no one would know that it was them who were dumping the rubbish there. According to him, even if someone found out that they were dumping rubbish, he had important friends- namely, Mac an Mháistir, an Teachta Dála. Sinéad was horrified- Mac an Mháistir was her dad!

Theastaigh ó fhormhór na ndéagóirí an dlí a chur ar Shéamus Dubh agus Peadairín agus theastaigh ó Shinéad an agóid a eagrú. Ach, bhí cuma bhuartha ar Éamonn Beag, nia le Séamus Dubh. Níor cheap sé go mbeadh sé ciallmhar sceitheadh ar na fir.

Most of the teenagers wanted to put the law on Séamus Dubh and Peadairín and Sinéad wanted to organise the protest. But Éamonn Beag, nephew of Séamus Dubh, looked worried. He didn't think that it would be wise to tell on the men.

Radharc a dó

Suíomh (Setting)****:

Tá radharc a dó suite in oifig na comhairle contae.

Scene two is set in the county council office.

Bhí Tadhg Ó Cúill, oifigeach de chuid na comhairle, ina oifig i bhfoirgneamh na comhairle contae. Bhí agóid i gcoinne na dumpála ar siúl lasmuigh den fhoirgneamh.

Tadhg Ó Cúill, an officer of the council, was in his office in the county council building. A protest against the dumping was going on outside of the building.

Tháinig an Téachta Dála, Seán Mac an Mháistir, isteach san oifig. Bhí sé cludaithe i stuif buí agus ní raibh sé sásta ar chor ar bith. Dúirt sé go raibh sé náireach nach féider le comhairleoir siúl isteach chuig a oifig féin gan a bheith faoi ionsaí.

The Téachta Dála, Seán Mac an Mháistir, came into the office. He was covered in yellow stuff and he was not at all happy. He said that it was embarrassing that a counsellor could not walk into his own office without being attacked.

Cháin sé tuismitheoirí na ndaoine óga. Dar leo, ní raibh smacht ag na tuismitheoirí seo ar a bpáistí.

He criticised the parents of the young people. According to him, these parents did not have control of their children.

Mhínigh Tadhg an scéal dó- bhí na daoine óga ag éileamh go gcuirfí an dlí ar dhaoine ata ag dumpáil go mídleathach in aice an locha. Chuir se glaoch ar na Gardaí cheana féin chun súil a choiméad ar na déagóirí. Ní raibh siad in ann aon rud eile a dhéanamh faoin agóid.

Tadhg explained the story to him- the young people were demanding the law to be put on people who are dumping illegally next to the lake. He had already called the guards to keep an eye on the teenagers. They could not do anything else about the protest.

Bhí Seán fós ar buile- dúirt sé gur cheart trí mhí sa phríosún a ghearradh ar na déagóirí.

Seán was still furious-he said the teenagers should be sentenced to three months in prison.

Ansin, luaigh Tadhg go bhfaca sé go bhfaca sé iníon Sheáin, Sinéad, sa slua. Bhí ionadh ar Sheán agus dúirt sé gur dóigh leis go raibh Sinéad díreach ag dul thar bráid.

Then, Tadhg mentioned that he had seen Sean's daughter, Sinéad, in the crowd. Seán was surprised and he said that he thought that Sinéad was just passing by.

Ina dhiaidh sin, mhínigh Seán an fáth ar tháinig sé chun Tadhg a fheiceáil. Bhí a sheancairde, Séamus Dubh agus Peadairín Thóin an Bhaile, le bheith os comhair na cúirte.

Then, Seán explained why he had come to see Tadhg. His old friends, Séamus Dubh and Peadairín Thóin an Bhaile were to be in front of the court.

Chuir sé clúdach donn ar bhord Thaidhg. Theastaigh ó Sheán go gcuirfidh an Comhairle Contae an cás cúirte siar. Dar leo, bhí fianaise bhréige a cúr i gcoinne.

He put a brown envelope on Tadhg's desk. Seán wanted the County Council to put back the court case. According to him, there was false evidence against them.

Dúirt sé nach mór don chás dul ar aghaidh ach go luafar pointí áirithei bhfabhar na beirte agus go ndéanfaidh siad iarracht finné ina bhfabhar a aimsú. Anuas ar sin, bhí sé chun labhair leis an dlídóir a bheidh ag obair ar son na comhairle.

He said that the case must go ahead but that certain points will be mentioned in favor of the two and that they will try to find a witness in their favour. On top of that, he was going to speak to the lawyer who will be working for the council.

Ní raibh sé an chomhairle contae ag cur an dlí ar Shéamus Dubh agus ar Pheadairín, ach na daoine óga san agóid. Dúirt Seán go raibh sé cinnte go ndéanfaidh Tadhg 'an rud ceart' mar a rinne sé riamh…

It wasn't the county council that was suing Séamus Dubh and Pedaarín, but the young people in the protest. Seán said that he was sure that Tadhg would do 'the right thing' like he had done before…

Radharc a trí

Suíomh (Setting)****:

Tá radharc a trí suite i seomra cúirte.

Scene three is set in a courtroom.

Mac Uí Dhroma: dlíodóir an bheirt fhear-Séamus Dubh agus Peadairín Thóin an Bhaile (the lawyer of the two men-Séamus Dubh and Peadairín Thóin an Bhaile)

Mac Uí Ghríofa: dlíodóir na ndaoine óga (the young people's lawyer)

Thosaigh an cás cúirte. Mhínigh Mac Uí Ghríofa an scéal don bhreitheamh- go raibh an grúpa déagóirí ag péintéireacht ar an bportach nuair a chonaic siad an bheirt fhear ag dumpáil bruscair go mídhleathach.

The court case started. Mac Uí Ghríofa explained the situation to the judge- that the group of teenagers were painting on the bog when they saw the two men dumping rubbish illegally.

D'fhiafraigh an bhreitheamh den dlíodóir an raibh na daoine óga go léir ón ngrúpa i láthair. Bhí ceathrar den seisear i láthair.

The judge asked the lawyer if all of the young people from the group were present. Four of the six were present.

D'fhiafraigh Mac Uí Dhroma de Mhac Uí Ghríofa an fath nach raibh an seisear go léir i láthair sa seomra cúirte. Mhínigh Mac Uí Ghríofa go raibh Seosamh Mac Domhnaill ag cuardach fianaise thábhachtach don cháis (a cheamara) agus go raibh siad ag súil leis an séú duine nóiméad ar bith.

Mac Uí Dhroma asked Mac Uí Ghríofa why all six were not all present in the courtroom. Mac Uí Ghríofa explained that Seosamh Mac Domhnaill was searching for important evidence for the case (his camera) and that they were expecting the sixth person at any minute.

Duirt Mac Uí Dhroma gur féidir leis cabhrú leo an seú duine a aimsiú. Ansin, ghlaoigh sé ar an séú duine ón ngrúpa chun fianaise a thabhairt-Éamonn Beag Ó Murchú. Tháinig Éamonn isteach agus sheas sé le Mac Uí Dhroma.

Mac Uí Dhroma said that he could help them find the sixth person. Then, he called on the sixth person from the group to give evidence-Éamonn Beag Ó Murchú. Éamonn came in and stood with Mac Uí Dhroma.

Bhí uafás ar an ngrúpa déagóirí. Dúirt Mac Uí Ghríofa le Sinéad go raibh se buartha nach raibh cúrsaí ag oibriú amach go rómhaith dá gcás.

The group of teenagers were horrified. Mac Uí Ghríofa said to Sinéad that he was worried that things were not working out too well for their case.

Dúirt Éamonn Beag nach raibh sé cinnte gurbh iad Séamus Dubh agus Peadairín a bhí ag dumpáil bruscair an lá sin. Dar leis, ní raibh sé in ann na fir a bhí ag dumpáil a fheiceáil i gceart mar bhí sceach ann.

Éamonn Beag said that he was not sure that it was Séamus Dubh and Peadairín dumping rubbish that day. According to him, he was not able to see the men who were dumping properly as there were bushes.

Mhol Mac Uí Dhroma don bhreitheamh gan an bheirt fhear a chúiseamh ar an mbonn sin gan fianaise níos cinnte. D'iarr dlíodóir na ndaoine óga ar an mbreitheamh sos cúig nóiméad a thabhairt dóibh.

Mac Uí Dhroma suggested to the judge not to charge the two men on that basis without more definite evidence. The young people's lawyer asked the judge to give them a five-minute break.

Mhínigh Sineád don ghrúpa go raibh Seosamh tar éis dul ar ais chuig an bportach chun a cheamara a aimsiú mar ghlac sé cúpla grianghraf den bheirt fhear ag dumpáil an bhruscair.

Sineád explained to the group that Seosamh had gone back to the bog to find his camera because he had taken a few photos of the two men dumping the rubbish.

D'fhill an breitheamh ar an seomra cúirte. Bhí sé ar tí deireadh a chur leis an gcás i bhfabhar na beirte nuair a rith Seosamh isteach. Bhí Seosamh traochta ach shín sé cúpla grianghraf chuig Mac Uí Ghríofa.

The judge returned to the courtroom. He was about to end the case in the two's favour when Seosamh ran in. Seosamh was exhausted but he passed a few photos to Mac Uí Ghríofa.

Thaispeáin Mac Uí Ghríofa na grianghraif don bhreitheamh agus do Mac Uí Dhroma. Mhínigh Mac Uí Dhroma an scéal go ciúin do Shéamus Dubh agus Peadairín.

Mac Uí Ghríofa showed the pictures to the judge and to Mac Uí Dhroma. Mac Uí Dhroma explained the situation quietly to Séamus Dubh and Peadairín.

Cúpla nóiméad ina dhiaidh sin, dúirt Mac Uí Dhroma go raibh siad ag tarraingt a gcáis siar agus ag adhmháil go raibh siad ciontach. Ghearr an breitheamh fineáil ocht gcéad euro orthu. Lig na déagóirí liú buach astu agus d'ardaigh siad a gcuid bratach.

A few minutes later, Mac Uí Dhroma said that they were withdrawing their case and admitting their guilt. The judge fined them eight hundred euros. The teenagers let out a shout of victory and they raised their flags.
