Soils:

• The West of Ireland has diverse soils, generally poorer in quality than in the Greater Dublin Area.
• Key soil types include grey-brown podzols, blanket peat, mountain peat, lowland gleys, and acidic brown earths.
• Fertile brown earth soils are present but tend to be acidic.
• Fertile soils are mainly found in lowland valleys, supporting limited agricultural settlement.
