Grouping

Grouping involves arranging and grouping terms in a way that reveals common factors, which can then be factored out.

Let's consider the expression :

9a26ab+12ac8bc9a^2-6ab+12ac-8bc

We can group the cc terms together.

9a26ab+(12ac8bc)9a^2-6ab+(12ac-8bc)

Factorise using HCF :

3a(3a2b)+4c(3a2b)3a(3a-2b)+4c(3a-2b)

We are now left with two terms, both of these terms share a common factor : (3a2b)(3a-2b)

(3a2b)(3a+4c)(3a-2b)(3a+4c)

As an exercise, expand these brackets out to see if we resolve the original expression.
