Structural Approach

Rational Approach

The Rational Approach is a method of analysing individuals within different political systems by viewing them as rational actors. This approach assumes that individuals make decisions based on their self-interest, aiming to achieve their personal or political goals. By focusing on individual actions, the Rational Approach is particularly useful for comparing the behaviour of members of the executive, legislature, political parties, pressure groups, and voters across different political environments.

Cultural Approach

The Cultural Approach emphasises the shared ideas, beliefs, and values that influence the behaviour of groups within various political systems. It posits that these collective cultural elements significantly shape how individuals within a group behave and interact politically. This approach helps explain why societies or political systems may operate differently from one another, as it highlights the impact of cultural norms and values on political behaviour and decision-making.
