Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde: Plot Summary (Edexcel GCSE English Literature): Revision Notes
Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde: Plot Summary
Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde tells the story of the respectable Dr. Henry Jekyll, who creates a potion that allows him to transform into a completely different person—Mr. Edward Hyde. Hyde is everything Jekyll is not: cruel, violent, and free from any moral restraint. As Hyde, Jekyll indulges in dark and forbidden activities without facing any consequences. However, over time, Hyde begins to take control, and Jekyll struggles to suppress him.
The novel follows Mr. Utterson, Jekyll's lawyer, as he investigates the mysterious connection between Jekyll and Hyde, eventually discovering the horrifying truth. In the end, Jekyll loses control completely, and rather than being permanently consumed by Hyde, he takes his own life, leaving behind a confession explaining the tragic experiment.
