Pride & Prejudice: Plot Summary
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice follows Elizabeth Bennet, one of five sisters, as she navigates society, love, and family expectations in early 19th-century England. The novel begins with the arrival of the wealthy Mr. Bingley and his friend, Mr. Darcy, in the Bennets' neighbourhood. While Bingley quickly falls for Elizabeth's sister Jane, Darcy initially appears proud and dismissive, leading Elizabeth to dislike him. As the story unfolds, Elizabeth learns that Darcy is not as arrogant as she first thought, and Darcy comes to admire Elizabeth's intelligence and strong will. After overcoming misunderstandings and societal pressures, they both realise their love for each other. The novel ends with Elizabeth and Darcy marrying, as well as Jane and Bingley, highlighting the importance of personal growth and mutual respect in relationships.
