Gardo
Gardo
- Gardo is a 14-year-old boy who lives and works on the Behala landfill with his best friend Raphael.
- He is serious, tough, and fiercely loyal. He often takes on a protective, older-brother role, watching out for Raphael.
- Gardo is more cautious and strategic than Raphael, often thinking ahead to avoid danger, especially when the boys become targets of the corrupt police.
"I'm the one who looks after Raphael. I'm the one who's supposed to keep him out of trouble."
- When Raphael finds the bag that triggers their adventure, Gardo immediately senses danger but stays loyal, never turning his back on his friend.
- He shows great courage and leadership, especially during the prison visit with Olivia Weston, a volunteer at the Mission School. He lies convincingly to get Olivia's help and speaks bravely to Gabriel Olondriz, a frail but important prisoner.
"I did not feel brave, but I had to go through with it."
- Gardo's most dangerous mission is recovering Gabriel's Bible, which contains the key to decoding José Angelico's message. He meets the corrupt guard Marco, trades the money, and escapes even after Marco tries to trap him.
"He was a hard man, and I knew he could kill me. But I had to get that Bible."
- Gardo is motivated by a sense of justice and loyalty, rather than personal greed. He stays focused on the bigger picture — helping the group succeed and standing up for what's right.
- In the end, Gardo helps release the stolen money over Behala and escapes to a new life on the island of Sampalo with Raphael, Rat, and Pia Dante.
