Exponential Sequences
An Exponential Sequence is a sequence where each term is found by multiplying the previous term by the same number every time. This number is called the common ratio.
infoNote
For example:
- In the sequence , ...
- Each term is found by multiplying the previous term by .
Key Points to Remember:
- Common Ratio: The number you multiply by each time to get the next term.
- Exponential sequences grow (or shrink) quickly because you're repeatedly multiplying.
At Junior Cycle level, it is important to recognise this type of sequence and distinguish it from linear and quadratic sequences.
