C Major
C Major – A Key with No Sharps or Flats
- Music composed in the key of C major has the tonic note C as its 'home' note.
- It uses the notes of the C major scale.
- The C major scale is the only major scale with no sharps (#) or flats (♭).
- It is played using only the white keys on a piano.
- Like all major scales, C major follows the same pattern of tones and semitones: Tone – Tone – Semitone – Tone – Tone – Tone – Semitone
- C Major Scale: C – D – E – F – G – A – B – C
infoNote
An octave is the interval between two notes of the same name, such as from C to the next higher C. The major scale covers this distance using eight notes.
