Breathing Disorder
infoNote
Asthma is a breathing disorder caused by the narrowing of the bronchioles, which restricts air from reaching the alveoli.
| Breathing Disorder | Asthma |
|---|---|
| Symptoms | • Noisy, wheezing breathing • Breathlessness |
| Causes | • Triggered by inhaling allergens such as pollen or dust. • The bronchioles narrow, and their linings become inflamed, reducing airflow to and from the lungs. |
| Prevention | If the allergen is identified, asthma can be prevented by avoiding exposure to that specific allergen. |
| Treatment | • Steroids are used to reduce inflammation and widen the bronchioles. • These are typically administered through inhalers. |
