Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells (Leaving Cert Biology): Revision Notes
📚 Revision Notes
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells
Prokaryotic Cell
infoNote
Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus or membrane-bound organelle e.g. bacteria.
- Usually small in size.
- Primitive: a simple and basic structure.
- No mitochondria or chloroplast.
- Example: Bacteria, which belong to the Monera kingdom.
Eukaryotic Cell
infoNote
Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and membrane bound organelle e.g. animals, plants.
- Larger than prokaryotic cells.
- More complex structure than that of prokaryotic cells.
- More advanced than prokaryotic cells.
- Contain mitochondria and chloroplast.
- Example: Plant cells.
