What is Photosynthesis?

• Photosynthesis is the process plants use to make their own food using sunlight.
• It happens in the leaves, where plants take in sunlight, carbon dioxide (from the air), and water (from the soil).
• Using sunlight, they convert these into glucose (a type of sugar) and oxygen.

• Photosynthesis is important because
  • It provides food for plants.
  • It produces oxygen, which animals and humans need to breathe.
