Definition of composite function

One function applied to the result of another function

Meaning of f(g(x))f(g(x))

Apply g(x)g(x) first, then use result as input for f(x)f(x)

Alternative notation for f(g(x))f(g(x))

(f∘g)(x)(f \circ g)(x)

How to read (f∘g)(x)(f \circ g)(x)

ff after gg - apply f(x)f(x) after applying g(x)g(x)

Which function is applied first in composite function

The function closest to the bracket (most nested)

(f∘g)(x)(f \circ g)(x) where f(x)=2x+1f(x)=2x+1, g(x)=x2g(x)=x^2

2x2+12x^2+1

Substitution step in f(g(x))f(g(x)) when g(x)=x2g(x)=x^2

Replace g(x)g(x) with x2x^2 to get f(x2)f(x^2)

(f∘g)(3)(f \circ g)(3) where f(x)=2x+1f(x)=2x+1, g(x)=x2g(x)=x^2
