Events are mutually exclusive if they cannot occur at the same time.

If AA and BB are mutually exclusive, then:

P(A or B)=P(A)+P(B)P(A \text{ or } B) = P(A) + P(B)

P(rolling a 1 or 2)=P(1)+P(2)P(\text{rolling a 1 or 2}) = P(1) + P(2) 16+16=26=13\frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{6} = \frac{2}{6} = \frac{1}{3}
