Singular subjects with singular verbs; plural with plural

Third-person singular verb rule (present tense)

Add 's' or 'es' to verb (he runs, she talks, it works)

Policeman vs policemen - verb forms

Policeman arrests (singular); Policemen arrest (plural)

Body language - singular or plural?

Singular (even though it refers to multiple gestures)

Was vs were - which is singular?

Was is singular; were is plural

Compound subjects joined by 'and'

Usually plural (Tom and Jerry are friends)

Effect of 'along with' on subject number
