Range=Highest value−Lowest value\text{Range} = \text{Highest value} - \text{Lowest value}

What a small range indicates

Values are clustered close together

What quartiles do to data

Divide data into four equal parts, each with 25% of values

Definition of Q1Q_1 (first quartile)

Median of lower half; 25% of data below this value

Definition of Q3Q_3 (third quartile)

Median of upper half; 75% of data below this value

Five values in the five number summary

Minimum, Q1Q_1, Q2Q_2, Q3Q_3, Maximum

IQR formula

IQR=Q3−Q1\text{IQR} = Q_3 - Q_1

What IQR measures

Spread of middle 50% of data, ignoring extreme values

What percentiles do to data
