What do averages measure?

Central tendency

Formula for mean xˉ\bar{x}

xˉ=∑xn\bar{x} = \frac{\sum x}{n}

How to calculate mean

Sum all values ÷ number of measurements

Decimal places in mean result

Same as original measurements

Definition of median

Middle value when data arranged in order

When to use median over mean

When dataset contains outliers

Definition of mode

Most frequently occurring measurement

Bimodal distribution

Distribution with multiple peaks

Why replicate experiments in biology

Repeated measurements account for natural variability

How does mean respond to outliers?
