What is in vivo gene cloning?

Producing copies of a specific gene within living organisms

What are sticky ends?

Single-stranded DNA overhangs from staggered restriction cuts

What does DNA ligase do?

Joins DNA fragments permanently by bonding the backbone

What is recombinant DNA?

DNA combining genetic material from different sources

What does a promoter region do?

Binding site for RNA polymerase to initiate transcription

What does a terminator region do?

Signals RNA polymerase to stop transcription

What are plasmids?

Small, circular DNA in bacteria used as vectors

What is transformation (in gene cloning)?

Process of introducing plasmids into bacterial cells

What do marker genes do?

Produce identifiable traits to find successful transformants

How do fluorescent markers identify success?

Successful transformants don't fluoresce (gene disrupted)
