Context	● Since 1948 N Korea has been ruled as an autocracy by a single family ● They have chosen intentionally to remain politically isolated from the rest of the world ● N Korea divided with S Korea in 1948
How are they switched off	● Ordinary citizens do not have any access to the internet or social media ● There are no undersea data cables connecting N Korea with anywhere else ● A visiting journalist observed that it was the only country which he had visited where nobody knew the song 'Yesterday' by the Beatles
