Context	● Brazil hosted the world cup in 2014 ● In 2018, Brazil elected a far-right president who promised to restore national pride and end corruption
The Word Cup	● Instead of encouraging national unity, there were protests in response to the $15 bn spent on the tournament despite Brazil struggling with corruption, crime, the Zika virus and rising food prices at the time
Corrupt Government Protests	● In March 2016, over 7 mil Brazilians protested against the alleged corruption of the Rousseff government ● Rousseff's successor, Bolsonaro elected in 2019 has divided Brazilian society on a wide range of issues including support for deforestation and anti-LGBTQ rights
