Pairs of numbers showing position of points on a grid

x-axis

y-axis

Point where axes meet, coordinates (0, 0)

$(x, y)$

Horizontal distance from origin (right if +, left if -)

Vertical distance from origin (up if +, down if -)

Along the corridor, then up the stairs

Cross (×)

Point exactly halfway between two endpoints

$\left(\frac{x_1 + x_2}{2}, \frac{y_1 + y_2}{2}\right)$

Add each pair of coordinates and divide by 2
