Tools to compare quantities or amounts

Colon (:)

Sum of all parts in the ratio

$\frac{3}{5}$ and $\frac{2}{5}$

Multiply or divide both parts by same number

First number is 1 (e.g., 1:1.8)

Smallest possible whole numbers

Whole numbers only, no common factors except 1

Find HCF of all parts, divide each by it

Find total ratio parts (add all numbers)

Calculate value of one part (total ÷ parts)

Multiply each ratio part by value of one part

Calculate quantities, write ratio, simplify
