8.4.2 The Purpose of Families
The family is the fundamental foundation of any society.
It is within the family that procreation occurs and where children's needs are met as they grow into adulthood.
infoNote
A nurturing and supportive family environment fosters stability for its members and contributes to the overall stability of society. Protecting children is a crucial aspect of family life, which is why cases of child abuse are particularly heartbreaking and distressing.
Purpose of families in Christianity
- In Christianity, the concept of family holds deep significance. God is envisioned as the ideal father—loving and kind—with Jesus and all humans regarded as His children. Christian parents have the responsibility to educate their children in the faith and serve as positive role models.
- They are expected to instil moral values in their children, guiding them in understanding right from wrong. Some Christian parents choose to send their children to church or faith-based schools to reinforce these teachings.
- The family is also where individuals learn how to live as part of a community. Through the guidance of their parents, children learn important social skills, such as how to interact harmoniously with others and understand the difference between right and wrong.
