Microwave Cooking

Definition:

• Uses electromagnetic waves to heat and cook food rapidly. Guidelines:

• Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

• Pierce food (e.g., potatoes) to prevent bursting.

• Cover food to avoid spattering.

• Allow food to stand after cooking for even heat distribution.

• Avoid metallic dishes in the microwave to prevent sparks.

Advantages:

• Quick method for cooking, reheating, and defrosting.
• Saves energy.
• Retains food's colour, texture, and nutrients.
• Affordable appliances.

Disadvantages:

• Does not brown food. Uses:

• Cooking: Scrambled eggs.

• Reheating: Chicken curry.

• Defrosting: Bread.

• Melting: Chocolate.
