Use of Textiles in the Home

Textiles are used in the home for comfort, decoration, and practical purposes.

1. Soft Furnishings

• Used to decorate and make rooms comfortable.
• Examples: Curtains, cushions, rugs, lampshades.

2. Upholstery

• Fabrics used to cover furniture, e.g. sofas and chairs.

3. Carpets and Rugs

• Make a room warmer and cosier.
• Help to insulate and reduce noise.

4. Bed Linen

• Includes sheets, pillowcases, blankets, and duvet covers.
• Provides comfort and improves room décor.

5. Table Linen

• Used to protect tables from spills and for decoration.
• Examples: Tablecloths, placemats, napkins.

6. Towels

• Used for drying and personal hygiene.
• Examples: Hand towels, bath towels, and dishcloths.
