Na pictiúir (The pictures)
Pictiúr 1
Sa chéad phictiúr, tá Liam ina chodladh go domhain ina sheomra leapa.
In the first picture, Liam is fast asleep in his bedroom.
Tá sé ag codladh go sámh, d'ainneoin na drochaimsire amuigh. Tá báisteach throm ag titim agus tá an tsráid fásach – níl anam beo le feiceáil.
He is sleeping peacefully, despite the bad weather outside. Heavy rain is falling and the street is deserted – not a living soul can be seen.
Pictiúr 2
Tá uisce ag dul isteach sa seomra agus ag clúdach an urláir.
Water is coming into the room and covering the floor.
Is léir gur tháinig stoirm mhór i rith na hoíche. Nuair a dhúisíonn Liam, tugann sé faoi deara go bhfuil an t-uisce ag dul in airde. Baintear alltacht as – níl a fhios aige cad ba chóir dó a dhéanamh. Tá a chosa faoi uisce agus tá a phitseámaí báite go hiomlán.
It is clear that a big storm arrived during the night. When Liam wakes up, he notices that the water is rising. He gets a fright – he does not know what he should do. His feet are under water and his pyjamas are completely soaked.
Pictiúr 3

Déanann Liam iarracht dul amach ach tá an doras faoi ghlas ag an uisce.
Liam tries to get out but the door is jammed by the water.
Déanann sé iarracht mhór éalú, ach ní féidir leis an doras a oscailt. Lúbann sé amach tríd an bhfuinneog agus tosaíonn sé ag glaoch os ard chun cabhair a fháil. Cloiseann beirt ógánach é – Aoife agus Conor – atá ina seasamh ar bhalla gar don teach.
He makes a big effort to escape, but he cannot open the door. He leans out through the window and starts shouting loudly to get help. Two teenagers hear him – Aoife and Conor – who are standing on a wall near the house.
Pictiúr 4
Ritheann Aoife agus Conor chun cabhrú leis.
Aoife and Conor run to help him.
Faigheann siad an diongbháilteacht dul tríd an uisce. Chomh luath is a shroicheann siad Liam, cuireann Aoife glaoch ar na seirbhísí éigeandála. Coinníonn Conor Liam socair agus deir sé leis fanacht ciúin. Tá Liam fíorbhuíoch díobh.
They find the determination to go through the water. As soon as they reach Liam, Aoife calls the emergency services. Conor keeps Liam calm and tells him to stay quiet. Liam is very grateful to them.
Pictiúr 5

Tagann an bhriogáid dóiteáin go tapa.
The fire brigade arrives quickly.
Láithreach, tagann na comhraiceoirí dóiteáin. Tarrthaíonn siad Liam tríd an bhfuinneog. Tá feistis uiscedhíonacha á gcaitheamh acu. Tá na déagóirí fliuch go smior agus crith leo leis an bhfuacht. Is í an tuile is measa sa cheantar le blianta fada.
Immediately, the firefighters arrive. They rescue Liam through the window. They are wearing waterproof gear. The teenagers are soaked to the bone and shivering with the cold. It is the worst flood in the area for many years.
Pictiúr 6
Tá Liam ag téarnamh san ospidéal.
Liam is recovering in hospital.
I gceann tamaillín, tá sé slán agus as baol. Caithfidh sé fanacht thar oíche, ach tá faoiseamh ar gach duine. Fanann Aoife agus Conor leis. Gabhann Liam buíochas ó chroí leo agus molann sé a gcrógacht.
After a short while, he is safe and out of danger. He must stay overnight, but everyone is relieved. Aoife and Conor stay with him. Liam thanks them sincerely and praises their bravery.
