Division of Algebraic Fractions

Dividing algebraic fractions can get messy, a simple trick is to invert the denominator so the fractions multiply. In general :

abcd=dc⋅ab\frac{\tfrac{a}{b}}{\tfrac{c}{d}} = \frac{d}{c} \cdot \frac{a}{b}

x53x2y\frac{\frac{x}{5}}{\frac{3x}{2y}}

Convert the expression to a multiple :

x53x2y=2y3x⋅x5\frac{\frac{x}{5}}{\frac{3x}{2y}}=\frac{2y}{3x} \cdot \frac{x}{5}

Multiply and simplify :

2y3x⋅x5=2yx15x=2y15\frac{2y}{3x} \cdot \frac{x}{5} = \frac{2yx}{15x} = \frac{2y}{15}
