What is a function in mathematics?

A process that takes an input, applies a rule, outputs a result.

What is the formula for f(x)f(x) in the example?

f(x)=x2+2f(x) = x^2 + 2.

How do you denote a composite function?

Using fg(x)=f(g(x))fg(x) = f(g(x)).
