Implications of psychological research on the economy

Attachment research into father–psychological research has shown both parents are equally capable of providing the emotional support necessary for a child to have healthy psychological development. Now in many households mother is a high earner and couples share responsibilities across the working week. This means modern parents are better equipped to maximise their income and contribute more effectively.

Development of treatments for Mental Illness – absence from work costs the economy an estimated £15 billion a year. Patients with depression can have their condition diagnosed quickly and get quick treatment such as SSRIs allowing them to manage their condition and return to work. Thus, the economic benefit of psychological research into disorders such as depression is considerable.
