Define compound growth

Quantities increase over time, with change calculated on the new amount each period

Define compound decay

Quantities decrease over time, with change calculated on the new amount each period

Key diff: compound vs simple growth

Compound: change calculated on new amount each time. Simple: change on original only

Compound formula

N=N0(1+r100)nN = N_0(1 + \frac{r}{100})^n

In compound formula, what is NN?

Final amount after time period

Initial starting amount

In compound formula, what is rr?

Percentage change per time period

In compound formula, what is nn?

Number of time periods

Convert % increase to multiplier

Add % to 100, divide by 100. E.g., 5% increase = 105/100 = 1.05

Convert % decrease to multiplier

Subtract % from 100, divide by 100. E.g., 5% decrease = 95/100 = 0.95

Multiplier for 5% increase

1.05

Multiplier for 5% decrease

0.95
